Handheld devices have always had their own little place in the gaming world. The beginning of handheld gaming units saw the creation of handheld consoles such as the Game Boy by Nintendo or the?Game Gear by Sega.
The Game Boy was exciting because you could play some of your favorites like Tetris or Dr. Mario. It was a basic gaming device that had the green screen with the black graphic, but it was the first of its kind that would allow you to play your favorite Nintendo games on the go.
The Game
Gear was Sega?s version of the handheld gaming device. It was really exciting because you could help Sonic collect all of his rings in color. There was also an attachment that?would allow you to use a TV tuner to watch television on your little device.
There has been a great deal of handheld gaming devices that have developed over the years, but nothing has been able to compare to the capabilities of the smartphone. The smartphone has become a gaming center all of its own, and has become a strong contender against even your favorite console.
The Games
One of the major benefits of gaming on a smartphone is that you can get some high quality games for little to no cost. There are games that appeal to everyone, and you can involve yourself in a simple game that may just take up a couple of minutes here and there or you can download rather complex arcade games.
The smartphone has found a way to combine some of the all time most popular games and make them accessible through your smartphone. You do not have to worry about having a giant arcade cabinet taking up space in your living room for you can enjoy games like Pac-Man, Mrs. Pac-Man, and Centipede right on your smartphone.
?
The smartphone may be a little different to play on than having a joystick and buttons, but it still does not change the fact that some of your favorite games are rather handy. Do you remember the game Duck Hunt that came with the older Nintendo gaming consoles?
?
You can now enjoy Duck Hunt sans gun. Sure it was fun aiming your giant plastic gun at the screen, but the chord always go in the way. Now you can simply tap your screen to take out those pesky ducks. There are several versions of Duck Hunt available. Some are built to match the original while others just pay homage to the original, but have increased the quality of the graphics and the challenge level.
Old school games are not the only games that are available for your smartphone. You can enjoy games that were developed especially for the smartphone such as Angry Birds, or you can play some of your video games that have an option for the smartphone.
?
Smartphone as a Console
Move over gaming consoles there are now converters that will allow you to use your smartphone as a gaming console.
?
There are keyboard attachments available that will help to convert your smartphone into a handheld gaming system. You do not have to worry about only playing that games that can be operated by tapping the screen or swiping your finger. You will have all of the buttons and controls that you would normally use on the control of a regular gaming console.
?
You can also purchase an iCade cabinet that has the appearance of the old school arcade games, but uses the tablet or smartphone as the computer and screen aspect. It is a great way to enjoy all the things that you loved about the arcade while getting all of the benefits of the new technology.
The smartphone and the tablets capabilities have changed the gaming world forever. It has taken the convenience of a handheld device and combined it with the quality of a gaming console. The future may see more people investing in the accessories for their smartphone versus investing in a separate gaming console.
