Whether at work, in a marriage, with family or even just in a friendship, I am still utterly amazed at how critical communication is to either the success or demise of relationships.
I am not referring to just any type of talking either. It is the whole-hearted (ideally soft-spoken) candid outpouring of your thoughts to another that will usually make the difference.
Without listening and making an effort to connect with the other person, your words are likely to fall on deaf ears. It is amazing that there are people (young and old) that simply don?t get this?even after half a century of living.
Try not to make it hard for people to disagree with you. If we?re not easy to approach we will never really know what others are thinking.
Ideally, you should refrain from communicating while you are very upset, but there is a time and a place for heated arguments, too, as long as you are talking about your feelings and thoughts, not tearing into the other person.
A tough argument with a boss, family member or friend can have permanent damage and consequences. Find a way to create a space where you are able to say what you need to say, and then do it.
