LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- A toddler was reunited with her family after she was found alone in a field in Salem moments after the storms.At first, no one knew who the girl belonged to, but as she fought for her life at Louisville?s Kosair Children?s Hospital, she was reunited with family.
Images | Live Wire | Raw Aerials At 5:30 p.m. Friday, the girl was flown to Kosair from St. Vincent Hospital in Salem with no name and no parents."We went into disaster mode, not knowing how many children we would get from the devastation we received in Indiana,? said Kosair Chief of Nursing Cis Gruebbel said.As a level one trauma center, Kosair staff readied themselves as three children from the wreckage in Indiana came in. One girl in particular caught their eye."We actually received her from St. Vincent in Salem, Ind. As I understand, it she was transported there, stabililzed there then air-vacced here," Gruebbel said.As Kosair nurses identified the children, the 2-year-old was alone."We have tags, you know, we put arm bands on the children, just to identify them and found out pretty quickly nobody came with this little girl," Gruebbel said.Kosair representatives called authorities in the devastated areas of Indiana and the search for her parents went out on television broadcasts. The hospital was able to positively identify the family related to the girl, but did not say if it was the parents of the 2-year-old girl.The hospital could not confirm the parents? condition."The family has been found. They, as I understand, showed up in Salem at St. Vincent hospital and were asking questions," Gruebbel said.The two other children found along with the 2-year-old girl are ages 9 and 11. They are listed in fair and serious condition with blunt-force injuries.
